COVID-19 Response Fund

We need your financial support for our St. Andrew’s benevolence project to provide meals to the health care workers at the Henry Ford Hospital as well as First Responders in Wyandotte, Michigan, and in addition, help our charitable partners.

In the face of this worldwide pandemic, our Detroit area is one of the critical hot spots. Our hospitals are at critical capacity, our doctors, nurses, and hospital staff is stretched to the limits. As a benevolent society that gives to many different organizations throughout the year, we have set up a fund called the Detroit Scots COVID-19 Response Fund. With the funds raised, we have outlined the following plan.

Our first goal is to provide meals to the front line warriors. We are going to donate a Sunday Scottish Dinner for the health care workers at the Henry Ford Hospital Wyandotte.

These dinners will be purchased from Portofino Restaurant, owned by our member Jerry Beasley. So, in fact, we would be helping two businesses impacted by this pandemic at the same time. Jerry and his staff will provide a hot meal at a cost of between $6 and $7 per meal. Our goal is to donate a total amount of $3,000 for this portion of the Detroit Scots COVID-19 Response Fund. The $3,000 fund would provide over 450 meals to these special people.

Through May 25, 2020, in addition to the above, our Society was able to further help our charitable partners:

  • Capuchin Soup Kitchen ($1,000)
  • Children’s Hospital of Michigan Clothes Closet through the Shower of Love ($250)
  • Fort Street Presbyterian Church-Open Door Ministry ($1,000)
  • Morse Elementary School in the Troy School District ($1,000)
  • Salvation Army ($1,000)
  • Turning Point ($1,000)

Our list of all our benevolences can be seen on

Your generosity is needed and appreciated. Your gift will go to the Detroit Scots COVID-19 Response Fund.
